…well actually, we headed North to LaConner and Skagit Valley to check out the tulip fields a couple of weekends ago only to find that the tulips were still pretty much little green buds… Luckily, though, the daffodils were in full swing & we braved the chilly winds to get take a few shots of them!! After freezing our little buns off checking out flowers, we raced to LaConner in search of gas for the car (word of advice to all you city dwellers: fill up the tank BEFORE you head out to wander miles of country roads;) and then headed to the waterfront to find some lunch.
As we were driving down the main drag, we saw some large camera equipment and Jeff said, “Hey – isn’t that John Curley??” I was doubtful, as we’ve run into him around Seattle so many times already, but more on that later. We waited a short 20 minutes or so for a table at the Calico Cupboard when they asked if we’d mind sitting with an elderly woman who was at a 4-top by herself… of course, we didn’t hesitate because she looked friendly enough & the Lemon Sour Cream Pie in the pastry case was making our mouths water! After a few minutes of small talk with June, I complimented her handbag, and she said, “Oh, thank you! It’s a Chloe…” Obviously, from that point on we had no shortage of conversation – she was a girl after my own heart!! Later, as we ate delicious clam chowder, freshly baked bread, and Jeff’s Reuben, we watched out the window as no other than John Curley from Evening Magazine cruised by in the Grand Marshal’s float for the Tulip Festival parade – which, incidentally, we had no idea was going on that day!
Here are a few shots from our little adventure… alas, we demolished our Lemon Sour Cream pie before we could get a picture of it – but trust me, it was excellent!!
